Lost Nation Theater, Vermont's award-winning professional theater has been creating and presenting first-rate productions for 30 years. The company dedicates itself to nurturing and sustaining the rich possibilities of human interaction through creative performance events and education.
For five years, Lost Nation’s Elderhostel program has provided intensive week-long courses in theater for mature students, led by college professors, professional actors, directors, and technicians-bringing theater to life on stage, backstage, and in the classroom. Subjects to explore include drama history and criticism, directing, management, set, lighting, costuming, and make-up. An in-class opportunity for acting practice is offered. As much as possible, each session is tailored to the interests of the participants.
An immersion into the cultural life and history of central Vermont is also part of the program. LNT typically offers three summer sessions and one fall session.
Classes provide 22 hours of instruction taught by professors Helen Caudill and Jeanne Beckwith, Lost Nation Theater staff, and guest artists. Participants attend productions at Lost Nation and other theaters in the region, and take part in field trips to the Savoy Theater, Barre Opera House, Vermont State House, Rock of Ages Granite Quarry, and Bread and Puppet Theater Museum.
Lost Nation Theater’s Elderhostel is the creation of long-time board member Dr. Ted Richards, professor emeritus of English, Norwich University.
Lost Nation can also accept “commuters.” If you are interested in participating, please call the Theater office at 802.229.0492, or email program coordinator Dona Bate: dona@lostnationtheater.org .
